Settling In Policy

We know that settling into a new environment can be exhausting, scary and exciting all at once. To make this easier on children, families and the current children in the nursery we have this, very flexible, settling in policy to assist us all.

Once children have been accepted into The Nursery, and a start date has been confirmed, a key person will be allocated to you.

Your key person will be your first point of call for matters relating to your child. Your child will keep the same key person throughout his or her time at The Nursery wherever possible.

A home visit will be arranged, following the first settling in visit to nursery, the key person and another member of staff will visit for approximately 20 minutes, information about the home visit will be included in the welcome pack. Home visits are offered, they are not compulsory.

On your first visit to The Nursery, we will introduce you to all staff and show you where the children eat, sleep and play.

We ask you to stay with your child for this settling in session, and for as many more as necessary. We introduce new families into nursery on a staggered basis, enabling us to give time to each family in order for this to happen.

Once your child is ready to start their first day at Nursery, we ask all parents to say goodbye to  their children at the door as quickly as possible. From our experience this has proven to be best for the children.  They will be greeted by their key person or a familiar teacher and are quickly distracted and start to settle into their day much better and happier.

Together we will choose when it is best to begin leaving your child, based on many factors including age, understanding and personality. Phone calls to check up on your child’s progress are welcomed (01865 516 636) and we will welcome you to stay and chat with us at the end of the day to find out about your child’s day.

We wish for the children to feel safe and happy in the absence of their families, to recognise other adults as a source of comfort, help, friendship and authority and to be able to share the wonderful things they have done at nursery with their families.

Children cannot play or learn successfully if they are anxious or unhappy. Our settling in policy aims to assist families in feeling confident, comfortable and secure, thus enabling children to benefit from what The Nursery has to offer, confidently knowing that their parents and families will return.
